Hope you had a happy Halloween. The weather turned cold here. It was in the 30's last night. But the boys wore enough hidden layers and numbed themsleves with sugar, so they still enjoyed a full two hours of trick-or-treating around the neighborhood.
We followed McCall's pattern pattern M2854 for the cape, bow tie, and cumberbund.
Lincoln was a tarantula. I wish I had a side shot of him. The costume is pretty awesome all the way around.
Here's the photo from Zulily, where I bought the costume.
Charlotte was a ladybug. Nevermind that ladybugs don't have tutus. The tutu made the costume.
Look how fluffy. I've waited years for this - YEARS!
One more shot. Indulge me.
I bought the tutu and antennae headband from Tootsie Tutu Shop on etsy. Yes, I bought it. It would have been fun to make. But since it took me two months and one mother-in-law to make Brighton's costume, I knew I didn't have the available time to finish the tutu. *sniff, sniff* But I supported a handmade, SAHM, American business. So that's good, right?
Lest you lose faith in me for doing nothing to make my baby's costume, be assured that I added the sparkly ladybug to the front of Charlotte's shirt and stitched velcro onto the back of her shirt to attach the wings. I'll overlook the fact that the wings came from a mega discount chain becuase I still had to use my sewing machine for the velcro. The two cancel each other.
Shoe credit goes to my mother, of course.
(Why won't this picture rotate?) Evidently Charlotte likes the feel of tulle. She spent most of the night grabbing her skirt and trying to eat it. The rest of the night was spent smiling at all the trick-or-treaters who fawned over how cute she was. There's something odd about having a blood-slathered preteen tuck her blood-slathered machete under her arm to reach out and tickle my baby's toes. But I'll take it as a compliment.
