Ben and I have 2 smaller boxes each and one big one for the bulky stuff that I think our kids might enjoy looking through one day - an old cheerleading uniform, my first violin (a half-size), my costume when I danced in the opening ceremonies of the Olympics.

I left high school with three large moving boxes' worth of keepsakes. Each time I go through it, I thin it out. I'm really happy with where it's at now, meaning that everything I have is either profoundly special to me or I think I would love it if I had the equivalent for my parents.

My mom obviously controlled what was saved from my early years. Which is nothing. I have a photo of my brother and me at age two. That's it. I don't believe in being a pack rat, but I'm glad that as I reached my high school years my parents let me filter what to keep. And of course now that I'm older and have more perspective, 90% of the high school stuff has been done away with. But I was able to decide what was important and how much storage I was willing to dedicate to my keepsakes.

Also, I consider handmade items a completely seperate category. I have NOTHING that I can say my mother, or grandmother, or aunt, etc. made, which is sad because I know they did make things. My mom just didn't hold on to anything. But how amazing is it to look at an old quilt and say "my great-grandmother made that" and look at the hand stitching and the fabric of the times!

To each her own. :)

As for the header, I know nothing of digital scrapbooking or the like. (I assume that's what you're talking about? See, I have no clue.) I bought the header as is - minus text - for $0.99 and used Picasa (free photo editing software) to add the text. I don't own Photoshop or Illustrator or any of the other programs I hear people rave about, so I'm afraid I have no clue what to tell you. I believe House of 3 has tutorials on thier site or their blog. I've never looked through them, but perhaps they could point you in the right direction.

Heather, glad you like the header. :) You've been on my mind...Rachel Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08301110715679690009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1833064334661758444.post-66235808343842267762009-12-30T00:44:45.318-08:002009-12-30T00:44:45.318-08:00I had to enlarge one of the pictures to read the f...I had to enlarge one of the pictures to read the fine print...Ben's childhood stuff...

That's a great goal for me to plan towards...to have all my kids' childhood stuff fit into one box.

Good luck with rearranging.

BTW, did you rearrange the House of 3 elements to make the header? I have the same lot but can't figure out HOW to use it.MMWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09928294741659782372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1833064334661758444.post-24180171073169605012009-12-29T21:09:00.787-08:002009-12-29T21:09:00.787-08:00So that's where the RS list came from. :) Look...So that's where the RS list came from. :) Looks like you'll be busy for the next few days. ;)

{Heart} the new header!!!
